Some Thoughts on Going (Back) to the Mission Field after 55....

--you can, without a pang of conscience, get rid of all kinds of accumulated
household goods that are too old to sell, but too good to trash

--you realize you can’t expect as much of yourself in terms of stamina…and you
shouldn’t

--your kids suddenly stop taking you for granted and decide they will miss you

--when middle-aged parents leave the nest and dismantle it, their fledglings must not
only learn to fly, but how to assemble and manage a nest; the growing up process
is accelerated and facilitated

--a few honest people tell you that you are crazy—and you agree

--you no longer expect to change the world…or even make much of a dent in the
godlessness and misery…but you have to try anyway

--some people say they admire you…which is disconcerting: obedience should be
normal, not admired. If obedience is admirable…does that mean disobedience is
acceptable?
